It’s been a couple of years since Mizuno launched an MP iron, and now a three-year project lead by its Yoro master craftsmen to develop a highly stable, forgiving multi-metal construction iron – MP-18.
This Mizuno’s newest collection of irons, actually consists of four distinct lines with unique construction approaches: the muscleback MP-18, the MP-18 SC (split cavity), the MP-18 MMC (multi-material construction), and the MP-18 MMC FLI-HI.
MP-18 MMC
As usual the MP-18 irons are all 1025E Pure Select mild carbon steel that is Grain Flow Forged, but now they are an HD or High Density forging whereby the grain is concentrated during the forging process for greater feedback.
Each of the new models is also designed with set-mixing in mind, meaning they can be blended seamlessly to provide the exact mixture of performance any player might need to optimize their game.
Mizuno also offers these sleek clubs with 26 different shafts, so you could easily find the best combination for you and strive to achieve that perfect game.
MP-18 MMC
Of particular note is the company’s MP-18 MMC line ($1,050 for a 4-iron to pitching wedge set), which features tungsten weighting in the toe to help with launch and increase the iron’s sweet spot. Better players will opt for the MP-18 or MP-18 SC, but the MMC has the smaller look and feel of a pro iron with the performance and technology needed by mid-handicappers.
According to Mizuno, “The Multi Material Construction (MMC) stems from a three-year project between our R&D team and our legendary forging house to address the demands of the modern player.”
