McLaren MP4/8A, driven by the legendary Formula 1 driver Ayrton Senna in his last race in Monaco in 1993, will be sold at an auction in May.
In 1993, in his last season Senna finished second in the McLaren with 16 points less than the champ Alain Prost. Driving his car came to his sixth and final victory in Monaco, and this is also a record that was not shot down even though it has passed 25 years.
Senna drove the car to six more races this season, and after the last race in Italy that he retreated after contact with Damon Hill and Martin Brundle, the car was used as a spare for the two remaining races in Japan and Australia. Senna celebrated both races.
The car, MP4/8A with Ford’s engine is still in running condition and is very well preserved. It is expected to be auctioned on May 11 for a high seven-digit amount.
In November last year, Ferrari’s racing car from 2001, which Michael Schumacher drove for his latest victory in Monaco, sold for $7.5 million. It’s the most valuable car from the modern era of Formula 1.
