Ford Focus raced by rally legend Colin McRae during the World Rally Championship in 1999, will be sold at an auction in February.
This Focus model was piloted by McRae and co-driver Nicky Grist at the Rally Catalunya, Rally Tour De Corse, the Rally Acropolis and Rally China in his first season with Ford.
In 1999, Focus was replaced with Escort and it was the first year in which it was used for the WRC.
McRae entered only two victories for the Ford and M-Sport team that year in Portugal and Kenya. However, the fourth place that McRae won in this car was in one of the three rallies the British driver managed to finish, the reason being the unreliability of the car and the accidents he experienced while driving.
Silverstone Auctions have given the car a guide price of between £120,000 and £140,000 – and it will be sold at the Race Retro Competition Car Sale on 23rd February.
McRae is one of the most famous rally drivers of all time and was the first Brit to win a world title in 1995. He tragically died in a helicopter crash in September 2007, along with his son and two family friends, while he was working on reigniting his career ahead of the 2008 WRC season.
