IKEA has teamed up with designer Tom Dixon on modular furniture collection.
Delaktig is an aluminium single bed that also functions as a chaise longue or sofa, and features a number of customisable add-ons, or “hacks” such as tables and lamps.
This project is not only about design, but equally about exploring materials and challenging traditional ways of production to redefine the concept of comfort. The immediate focus is on seating or sleeping solutions.

“The only real piece of furniture you need is a bed. It’s the basic unit of furnishing that everybody needs. So rather than sofa bed, you can see this as a bed that can be a sofa, if you want it to be. And then it can be all kinds of other things later on,” says Tom.
There’s also accessories, such as the Boom Light, a floor lamp that can be attached to the sofa, and the side table, which can be turned into either a resting spot for any appliances or a magazine rack. In addition to these accessories, there’s also a selection of throws and covers that’ll transform the look of the sofa.

The HACK throws come in navy boucle as well as a black Icelandic Sheepskin fabric cover that’s called The Beast.
IKEA and Dixon have been working with Swedish textile design company Bemz, which already specialises in covers for IKEA furniture, to manufacture accessories that will launch concurrently with the bed in 2018.
