TRON is a sci-fi movie produced by Disney in 1982 and directed by Steven Lisberger, starring Jeff Bridges as Kevin Flynn/Club and Bruce Boxleitner as Alan Bradley/TRON. Being one of the first movies to use computer graphics, TRON has a distinctive visual style and, although it wasn’t a success at the box office, it became a cult and is considered the first experiment in computer animation. Despite its avantgarde look for that time, TRON was nominated for two Oscars, but not for Visual Special Effects: the Academy considered computer graphics as too easy, compared to traditional animation.
This was inspiration for the lines of the Vortex Gamma Tron case, composed of six 3D sapphire crystals. Playing with the contrasts of colors — white for the case and blue for its edges — and light, with the outlines of its edges glowing in the dark, HAUTLENCE pays tribute to the iconic style of TRON. The Vortex Gamma Tron undergoes a metamorphosis when the light fades, including the brand’s Möbius symbol which also glows at the centre of the dial, turning on itself with each new hour.
The retrograde minute dial, varnished white and adorned with azure numerals, offers a large window onto the HL2.0 self-winding caliber which drives the Vortex Gamma Tron.
Each of the 12 articulated links in the jumping hour chain features one of 12 white numerals. The feature at the heart of the movement, the chain turns every 60 minutes, taking 3-4 seconds to move gently, with control, to avoid any shocks or loss of energy, whilst leaving enough time to admire the beauty of the movement and its mechanisms in action. The regulating organ is integrated into the mobile bridge-type calibre, with the change in position actuated by the display improving accuracy by statistically offsetting the effects of gravity. The calibre HL2.0 is equipped with two barrels. The second barrel, dedicated exclusively to driving the complication, is continually reset by the main barrel, so that the optimal level of energy is available each time the hour changes. This double barrel system ensures the complex mechanisms are supplied independently, without affecting the watch’s ability to keep accurate time.
The case, measuring 52mm x 50mm x 18mm, is done in white and blue HLLightColor (a composite material with ceramic nanotube particles). The crown is done in titanium. It has 6 three-dimensional sapphire crystals, scratch-resistant, produced by multi-axis grinding. It is water resistant to 30 meters.
Description of the movement:
Two barrels: one going train barrel (power reserve for the entire watch calibre including power for the second complication barrel) and a complication barrel.Hours displayed by a 12-link chain hinged on a pallet system. The speed regulator ensures that the hours display changes smoothly over a period of 3-4 seconds. It completes 48 revolutions at each hour change. Hours system activated by a one-revolution mechanism mainly composed of a connecting rod and a rack.Mobile bridge-type calibre comprising the regulating organ and rotating through 60° at each change of hour.
Movement kinematics featuring 90° changes of direction by means of special bevelled gears. Rotor in 18kt white gold. Protected by three patents.
It has 92 jewels, 18,000 vph and a power reserve of 40 hours.
Hautlence Vortex Gamma Tron has an upper sapphire dial face: white and blue transfer; Minute hand: black rhodium-plated; Power reserve hand: steel with red varnished indicator.
It comes on a white high-tech fabric with blue topstitching, hand-sewn rolled-edge and a titanium folding clasp.
