When Gucci puts its signature even on a rubber bag, it becomes a status symbol , priced at a little less than a thousand bucks. We’re talking about their new logo top handle tote, made from 100% rubber which will cost you $980.
“Bridging nostalgic references from the seventies and eighties with versatile and functional designs, Spring/Summer 2018 presents a collection of totes featuring the Gucci vintage logo. The oversize, rubber design references the shape of vintage beach bags, embossed with House logos and phrases. At the bottom of the bag appear the words: “Guccification,” “Sine Amore Nihil,” “Summer MMXVII” and “XXV”—each a code that holds special meaning to the House.”
Promoting the launch on its Instagram page, Gucci shared an image of the rubber tote online, which incited a lot of backlash in the comments section.
One person wrote: “I have one for my laundry I love it.”
Another user, @shabbiheath, isn’t buying into the viral gimmick. “It look like the $2 bags for collecting dirt ! So sad Gucci 😵😢”
While @fi_shoe was a bit more excited by the news: “Finally a laundry basket that suits Gucci clothes.”
We can think and write what we want, but like every Gucci’s piece, this rubber tote bag already found its fans with a deep pocket, since completely sold out at Nordstrom, but is still on backorder at Saks Fifth Avenue, Bergdorf Goodman and Neiman Marcus.
