The only thing that legendary Carroll Shelby liked was the same as creating high-performance cars, in all likelihood it is, enjoying ride them.
This can explain why, every year, we can see some of his models, which he drove personally, at certain auctions …
However, at this year’s Greenwich Concours d’Elegance event, which will take place this June, Bonhams will sell, not one, nor two, but more than twenty vehicles that this late legend owned.
24 cars are mostly coming from the era in which legendary Shelby collaborated with Ford and Chrysler, but there are also some special models that seem to have simply attracted the attention of the famous racer and manufacturer.
Among the cars that are on offer is the first copy of the 1999 Shelby Series 1 Roadster, one of several Carroll’s GM-engine projects – in the form of Oldsmobile V8 machines. There is also the 1969 Mustang GT500 purchased by Hollywood actor Jackie Cooper Jr. as well as the 2011 Shelby Cobra CSX 8027, a car that emerged as an extension of the classic line.
This collection also includes the Dodge Charger, Omni and Dakota models tuned by Shelby, along with the 1935 Chrysler Airflow Sedan unit, which once belonged to Steve McQueen.
A full catalog should only be published, but we know that the collection has several Panthers units too, which is not surprising too, because we know the cooperation of Carroll Shelby with De Tomas.
“We’re honored to have been chosen to represent the legendary cars of the legendary man.” said Eric Minoff, Bonhams Head of Sale for Greenwich. His colleague Michael Caimano added, “Carroll Shelby is synonymous with American racing and performance vehicles and his contribution to the motoring world is priceless. What a privilege it is to represent many of his personal cars.”
