The Hermès Silver Mini Kelly bag fetched a world record of HK$500,000 (US$63,750) at a Spink auction in Hong Kong. Measuring 6in (15cm) features a removable Chaine D’Ancre shoulder strap is considered a masterpiece and being one of the top five most special handbags in the world.
Secured with a branded sterling silver turn-lock closure on the front flap, the bag became the spotlight in Spink’s first auction of luxury handbags and accessories.
The second-highest lot was from the Hermès ‘So Black’ collection which is now discontinued. Produced in 2010, it sold for a premium-inclusive HK$300,000 (£27,200).
The April 18 sale comprised more than 100 handbags from brands such as Hermès, Chanel and Louis Vuitton and estimates ranged from HK$5000-500,000. The premium-inclusive auction total was HK$8.15m (£742,676). Buyer’s premium is 25%.
