First there was Africaba, then Mexicaba, now meet the newest addition to Christian Louboutin’s world – Manilacaba…
On the heels of a sensational trip to the Philippines last fall, Christian Louboutin left awe-inspired by the colourful sights and boisterous sounds – the joyful pulse of Manila, the country’s capital. While sitting in bumper-to-bumper Jeepney traffic, he marveled at the heritage and eclectic decorations bestowed on the vehicles, originally abandoned by American troops after World War II. Surrounded by the lights and sounds of Manila, Christian felt akin in an instant to the city’s celebratory spirit.
Recalling his experiences, two limited-edition versions of the new Manilacaba tote were born – Denim Blue and Black Satin. Each comprised of colourful panels of fabric embroidered in cotton threads and adorned with sequins, irreverent design details throughout the bag reference the energy of Manila and the Filipino people.
Where the adventure begins is at the intersection of brightness, endemic to Filipino design, and the flare of Christian Louboutin’s detailed design work. Around each red frame, center-front to every Manilacaba, an eye-catching arrangement of shimmering sequins nods towards the radiance of mother of pearl, a material produced and used often in native Filipino craftsmanship.
Signature Christian Louboutin details, including a mix of spikes and a logo crest proudly proclaim the bag’s heritage. And don’t forget to take a peek inside Manilacaba for a flash of eye-popping pattern!
Ten percent of the proceeds from each Manilacaba purchased will be donated to GREAT (“Gender Responsive Economic Action for the Transformation of Women”) to further contribute to the organization’s development and support the women of the Philippines.
