The Chinese vase, a few centuries old, once stored in a warehouse in the Oklahoma Museum, was sold at an auction in Hong Kong for $14.5 million.
A rare porcelain vase was given to the Museum of Art in Tulsa in 1960. It was part of the museum’s permanent exhibition, although it was kept in the warehouse for more than a decade.
Associated Press claims that it was believed that the making of a vase was ordered by the Emperor Qianlong in the early 1700s, and its value was estimated at from $9 million to $11 million ahead of the auction, which was held on Wednesday.

Scott Stulen, director and president of the Philbrook Musem of Art in Tulsa , said, “It’s really an anomaly. It’s a really unique vase, but it isn’t like we have a lot of other works that can kind of speak to telling its story.”
“In the late 90’s, it appraised about $150,000. It was reappraised again in the 2000’s and it jumped up between $1 and $3 million.”
