Built between 1919 and 1923 by financier Louis G. Kaufman, Granot Loma is set on a peninsula in Lake Superior just north of the city of Marquette, Michigan.

LG, as Kaufman was known, built the estate to rival the wooded retreats that became as built by the Gilded Age magnates in the Adirondack Mountains of upstate New York. “Hollywood legends such as Fred Astaire, Mary Pickford and George Gershwin ‘camped’ at Granot Loma,” according to its website. The tennis court is designed by legendary player Bill Tilden. In the 1970s, Mohammed Ali visited the property and attempted to purchase it in order to turn it into a boxing camp.
