There are only a handful of brands in the world who view the writing instruments as art objects, as the Italian brand Montegrappa does …
In fact, their new limited edition called Samurai is much more than a sculptural pen. “I was really intrigued by the details you can see on the armor,” said Giuseppe Aquila, CEO of the brand. “By that, I thought it would be an ideal theme for us, but at the same time we wanted to do something new.”
A new silver pen is essentially a miniature reproduction of the entire Samurai shield.
The Montegrappa brand, a pioneer in wax molds when decoration of the pen, used a modernized version of the technique to create incredibly detailed decorations and silver components of this pen, from a kusazuri skirt, to a face mask that is pink gold-coated. The use of the fabric is also something that this brand is doing for the first time now, but fortunately, since it is an Italian company, at their disposal, there were a large number of textile producers with whom they could cooperate.
Turning the leg of the figurine opens a writing instrument, or a pencil with 18-carat gold. When it’s in use, the rest of the samurai can stand upright on the stand that comes with it, and in addition, if you buy this phenomenal masterpiece, you will also get a miniature katana, which you can use to open the letters. As expected from a Montegrappa limited edition, the pen comes in a beautiful black-lined box, with the original Chinese character for the samurai.
The pen will be available for purchase from September, with a silver version limited to 177 copies, costing $15,000, while the version of pure gold, which will be seven, will be able to be bought at a price that is only available on request.
