Homer is the name ascribed by the ancient Greeks to the legendary author of the Iliad and the Odyssey, two epic poems that are the central works of ancient Greek literature. The Iliad is set during the Trojan War, the ten-year siege of the city of Troy by a coalition of Greek kingdoms. It focuses on a quarrel between King Agamemnon and the warrior Achilles lasting a few weeks during the last year of the war. The Odyssey focuses on the journey home of Odysseus, king of Ithaca, after the fall of Troy. So it is not surprising that Montblanc honors this famed bard with its annual Writers Edition pens.
Montblanc Homage to Homer
This year’s collection is “Homage to Homer” and includes the Montblanc Writers Edition, Homage to Homer and the Montblanc Writers Edition, Homage to Homer Limited Edition 1581 as well as a fine stationery Greek blue leather notebook with embossed Trojan horse silhouette and a special ink in Greek Blue.
This Writers Edition takes its main inspiration from the story of the Trojan horse. The overall shape is inspired by the horse, with the back and clip reflecting the spear. The engraving on the cone and rings borrows motifs from traditional Greek black-figured pottery, with the overall color of the writing instrument taking inspiration from this same black Greek pottery. Crowned with the Montblanc emblem in precious resin, the Writers Edition Homage to Homer is available as a Fountain Pen, Roller Ball and Ballpoint Pen, as well as a Mechanical Pen (only in a set).
With a limitation number that references to year of the first translation of Homer’s Iliad in English, the design of the Montblanc Writers Edition, Homage to Homer Limited Edition 1581 is based on the story of the Trojan Horse with the same distinctive equine silhouette.
