Football club Corinthians revealed the look of the third jersey that was designed in honor of Ayrton Senna and the 30th anniversary of winning his first title in Formula 1.
A tribute kit in many ways honors the legendary Brazilian who is considered one of the best drivers of all time. Senna died on May 1, 1994 during the Grand Prix of San Marino in Imola, and at that time was a triple world champion.
The kit is reminiscent of the black and gold Lotus driven by Senna in F1 between 1985 and 1986. On the upper part of the jersey there are 41 lines, one for each of his victories, while on the collar there are three lines that symbolize three titles. Inside the collar is the phrase ‘Senna sempre’, meaning ‘Senna always’ in Portuguese.
For unveiling a tribute kit, Corinthians chose the 30th anniversary of the Grand Prix of Japan in 1988, in which Senna secured his first title.
Senna was a great fan of the Corinthians, who had given him a tribute on the football field. On May 1, 2014, Brazilian soccer players entered the field with Senna’s helmets on their heads at the 20th anniversary of his death.
