British prestigious auction house, Christie’s proudly announce the auction of the handwritten letter in which Nobel physicist Albert Einstein took issue with the concept of religion and his own Jewish faith. The 1-1/2 page letter, written in German will go up for auction on Dec. 4 at Christie’s auction house in New York City where is expected to sell for between $1 million and $1.5 million.
“The word God is for me nothing but the expression and product of human weaknesses, the Bible a collection of venerable but still rather primitive legends,” Einstein wrote (translated into English). “No interpretation, no matter how subtle, can (for me) change anything about this.”

The God Letter is one of the most famous manuscripts in 20th century inquiry and one of the most definite statements in the debate between religion and science. Addressed to philosopher Eric Gutkind, the letter fuses Albert Einstein’s thoughts on religion, his Jewish identity and his own search for meaning in life. This highly significant piece, written a year before Einstein’s death, remains the most fully articulated expression of his religious and philosophical views.
his letter will be on public view at Pace Gallery in San Francisco on 25 October, at Christie’s San Francisco Office by appointment 29-31 October, and open to the public 1 November and in New York galleries ahead of the auction from 30 November to 3 December.
