British auction house, Christie’s, sold the Pink Legacy diamond for more than $ 50 million, breaking the world record for the price of pink diamond per carat.
The diamond, which is an incredible 18.96 carats, is a rare sight because it contains no other colors, a classification known as “fancy vivid,” according to the Gemological Institute of America (GIA). This designation is given to only 1 in 100,000 diamonds, making it truly rare.
The expensive diamond, which was auctioned on Tuesday in Geneva, was bought by famous jewelry designer Harry Winston and was renamed The Winston Pink Legacy after it was purchased.

Christie’s expected $30 to $50 million for which is actually the largest luxury pink diamond ever processed. The diamond is sold at a price of $44.5 million, but with a “buyer’s premium” and other costs, its final price is $50.375 million.
It earlier belonged to the collectors, Oppenheimer Family, and Christie’s states that it is one of the chemically purest specimens, with almost no nitrogen. Rahul Kadakia, International Head of Jewelry at auction house Christie’s says that for the past 251 years, Christie’s has sold only four diamonds weighing more than 10 carats in pink color.
