In October, a bottle of Macallan 60-Year-Old scotch whiskey set a record when it sold at auction for $1.1 million.
Now that record is no longer valid, since another bottle of Macallan 60-Year-Old just smashed it, selling for over $1.5 million at Christie’s Wine and Spirits auction in London.
Both noteworthy bottles are part of a 24-bottle collection of the 1926 malt: 12 of those bottles featured artwork designed by Peter Blake and 12 featured artwork by Valerio Adami. The bottle sold in October was part of the Valerio Adami collection.
This bottle, however, was an even rarer exception: It was hand-painted by Irish artist Michael Dillon.
According to an official statement by Christies, the 1926 60-Year-Old Michael Dillon bottle is “unquestionably the ‘Holy Grail’ for whiskey collectors as it is truly one-of-a-kind.”
The bottle, which depicts the Easter Elchies House of The Macallan and the Scottish Highlands was offered in a “The Macallan 60-Year-Old” wooden presentation case with a certificate of authenticity from The Macallan.
The bottle has also set a new world record for the most expensive whiskey to be sold on auction.
