John Denver’s former Aspen home in the Starwood neighborhood has just hit the market for $11 million. Built in 1972, a year after Denver’s single, “Take Me Home, Country Roads” which enabled him over 33 million records sold worldwide, and nestled in the gated-community property between Aspen and Woody Creek, this residence later inspired his song “Starwood in Aspen.”
The legendary singer-songwriter, who died in a plane crash in 1997, lived in this home for more than 25 years and called it his “sweet Rocky Mountain paradise.”
The recently remodeled five-bedroom, 7,735-square-foot home has five full and two half-bathrooms and is set on a large 2.61-acre wooded lot with mountain views. Other features include a garage with space for four-plus cars, a fire pit with a lounge area and three wet bars.
After Denver’s death, the entire compound, which included a guest house that also served as a recording studio, was sold for $3.68 million. It was placed on the market in 2014 for $10.75 million, but remained unsold for two years, when it was bought by the O’Donovans, without the guest house, for $2.75 million.
