Louis XIII has just announced a brand new limited edition of their Black Pearl which pays homage to André Hériard Dubreuil, the former chairman born 100 years ago. Entitled Louis XIII Black Pearl AHD, the luxe spirit comes housed in a steel-colored crystal decanter, and is presented in a strictly limited edition numbering only 1498. It’s 35cl in size, and in the theme of the Black Pearl Collection the iconic Baccarat Crystal decanter is presented in cool shade of steel.
Looking back to the origins of LOUIS XIII, the first decanter was inspired by a metal flask found by a peasant in 1850 on the site of the battle of Jarnac. Whose flask was it? Up until now, it remains a complete mystery. Some say it may have been a knight’s property… others say the owner was one General.
In 2007, as an homage to these very beginnings of LOUIS XIII, Black Pearl was created. It is the stunning result of a close collaboration with crystal-maker Baccarat, an unusual tête-à-tête between two sensibilities and two temporalities. The edition is an exclusive, individually numbered series produced from a century-old tierçon.
The Maison Baccarat produced a decanter of such refined and intricate beauty: hand-blown and decorated with iridescent palladium plating. A multitude of reflections catch the light, dance across the surface and splinter into flashes of silver, black and anthracite.
When you step inside into the cellar, the air is chilly, but the moist warmth of the forest carpet is distinct. These specific conditions, have given rise to a singular tasting experience: fresh, floral and intense earthy aromas for a LOUIS XIII blend with a singular signature. Discover remarkable notes of dried roses, honey, myrrh, cigar box, plum, honeysuckle, leather, figs and passion fruit that gradually give way to the scent of wet chalk and woody undergrowth and leave nothing but smooth elegance in their wake.
