Oscar Schindler’s Watch At Auction

Certainly there is no man on the planet that he has not heard of Oskar Schindler, the German industrialist who saved the lives of about 1,200 Jews during World War II. The story of this brave man was the basis for Steven Spielberg’s Oscar-winning 1993 film, Schindler’s List. RR Auction in Boston commemorates his work and give connoisseurs a chance to own Schindler’s Longines wristwatch, a compass he and his wife reportedly used in 1945 as they fled advancing Russians, two Parker fountain pens, and several other items.

RR’s executive vice president Bobby Livingston says the possessions are from the estate of Schindler’s wife, Emilie, who died in 2001.
The watch in question is a basic time-only Longines that looks every bit the part of the 1940s timekeeper. It has a stainless steel case and an off-white dial that has aged to a rich custard color. The dial has tons of negative space, punctuated only by the sharp rose gold hour and minute hands, the applied rose gold hour markers, and the subtle crosshair marking out the small-seconds register. A small sub-seconds dial sits at 6 o’clock, marked by two thin black crossing lines. The 12.682 Caliber movement is visible through the caseback.
There are currently only six bids for the timepiece at a top bid of $4,028. Bidding will end on March 6th.
