How Much Would You Pay A Racing Pigeon?

If someone asked you how much you would pay a racing pigeon, the answer probably wouldn’t be $1,4 million. Yes, that’s right, one Chinese dropped exactly that amount for a champion Belgian racing pigeon in a sale, according to the auction house Pipa, which oversaw the online auction for the rare bird.
The emerald-green pigeon named Armando grabbed the record-breaking amount after a bidding war ensued between two Chinese buyers.

On Sunday morning, the auction for Armando reached roughly $603,000 before jumping to the final $1.4 million mark in an hour. The previous record for a single pigeon was about $427,000, said Pipa.
“This pigeon has a race record that has never been matched by any other pigeon,” said Nikolaas Gyselbrecht, the founder and chief executive of Pipa.
“In football terms you have Messi and Ronaldo – it’s that level,” he explained.
