Limited edition Hermès Birkin bag set new world record at Christie’s auction in Hong Kong when it sold for HK$1.625 million or US$208,00 despite its low presale estimate of HK$400,000.
Made from Niloticus crocodile skin, rare bag is part of the So Black collection, designed by Jean Paul Gaultier during his stint as Hermès’s creative director from 2003 to 2010. Previous record sale from this series fetching HK$1.375 million at auction in May 2018.
As like the So Black Birkin, a 2014 matte white Himalaya Niloticus crocodile diamond Birkin currently holds a world auction record for being sold at a whopping $2.94 million (US $293120) in 2017.
