After several years of anticipation and various speculation, the new Chevrolet Corvette Stingray C8 was finally launched. As reported by the Autonet portal, compared to its predecessors, this car comes for the first time with a centrally located engine, so that finally fulfilled the dream of Zora Arkus-Dunte, famous automotive engineer who once greatly improve not only the respective model, but also the whole Chevrolet.
The new generation of Corvette looks more or less just the way it could be expected. In accordance with the rich history and modern, sporty, aggressive with a pronounced aero package, various cooling openings, muscular shapes, two pairs of ends exhausted and the like. Its centrally located V8 is covered with a hood with cooling openings, and the rear window provides a view of the drive unit.
Above the window is a camera that sends an image to a digital central mirror. In addition to it, there are two other large digital screens, the instrument panel and the central infotainment screen.
Otherwise, the entire interior is new and exudes sports spirit, primarily because of the cockpit oriented to driver. Of some elements, perhaps the most important center console with a number of switches (ventilation, air conditioning and seats) and gearboxes and an infotainment menu should be most emphasized. Of the other details, we mean the front and the smaller front trunk (with a total of 357 liters of volume) and the removable part of the roof, as well as a rich equipment.
This car is powered by a 6.2-liter LT2 V8 engine that develops 365 kW / 497 hp and 630 Nm of torque. With the optional Z51 Performance, the engine power levels are slightly increased to 369 kW / 502 hp and 637 Nm. The engine is standardly paired with a 8-speed automatic gearbox with gear shift knobs and, of course, rear-wheel drive. Performance data are not currently known, but this car will arrive from 0 to 60 miles per hour (96 km/h) with the Z51 Performance package in about three seconds.
The price on the US market has not yet been officially confirmed, but it is estimated to be around $60,000. It’s not a bit of money, but when taking into account the performance of a decent supercar, the new Corvette Stingray will continue to be a budget supercar.
Production will start at the end of the year, and shortly thereafter the first deliveries can be expected.
