Famous watchmaker took the opportunity of 2019 Singapore Formula 1 Grand Prix to present its latest limited edition timepiece with support of the lead driver of its partner F1 team Alfa Romeo Racing, Kimi Räikkönen. This piece pays homage to both this great driver and his team: Alfa Romeo Racing Team, the legendary manufacturer inseparable from car racing.
The combination of the tourbillon escapement and the chronograph paired with the unprecedented fine skeletonisation make this particularly innovative watch the absolute chronograph perfection.
A true legend in Formula 1, and also Finland’s Sports Ambassador since 2017, Räikkönen’ said: ‘We in Finland are known for our “guts” and determination. We even have a word for it – “sisu”. We have it in our stomachs. It’s what gets us past the finishing line, despite the odds. In my sport, however, sisu is not enough. I have to rely on high-performance technology and team-work – the kind I’ve come to appreciate since joining the Alfa Romeo Racing Team. Most of all, though, there has to be sheer passion! Richard Mille has powered his own engine for years with all three of these,– guts, technological prowess and above all fun. That’s why I am more than happy to be at the wheel with the ground-breaking RM 50-04 on my wrist.’
The movement which weighs just 7 grams thanks to the extreme skeletonisation of components and the use of ultra-light titanium-vanadium-aluminum alloy for the baseplate and bridges is perfectly integrated into the pale white/cream 44.5mm case, which is achieved by the Carbon TPT bridges and the transverse carriage that supports the entire movement – it is connected to the caseband. As a result, the movement is highly shock resistant and has been tested to 5,000 Gs.
The hand-wound RM 50-04 sports a 30-minute split-seconds chronograph, a tourbillon, a power reserve indicator (max is ~70 hours), and indications for both function and torque.
The watch also carries a red colorway to connect with Räikkönen’s current position on the Alfa Romeo Racing Team, and the dial features an oversized “7” hour marker, as this is the number of Räikkönen’s car.
RM 50-04 is limited to just 30 pieces at an eye-watering price of $1,063,000.
