A bottle of Scotch whiskey broke the record at an auction in London as it was sold for £1.45 million, or almost £1.7 million, confirmed auction house Sotheby’s.
The previous record for a bottle of whiskey was reached last year when single malt from the same Scottish Macallan distillery was sold for £1.2 million.
The bottle recently sold today contains whiskey from a barrel from 1926 and single malt was bottled in 1986.
There are only 40 bottles of this whiskey and it is therefore considered the “holy grail” of that type of alcohol.
An elegant bottle of 700 milliliters was estimated at £450,000 (€519,000). Otherwise, Sotheby’s didn’t specify the buyer’s identity.
