From butterflies to flowers, motifs that decorate Jacob & Co.’s new Astronomia Fleurs de Jardin watch make up the true garden of feminine clichés. Underneath the sweet and feminine ornamentation, this watch harbors serious mechanical magic.
For starters, we will consider the vertical Astronomia mechanism. Introduced in 2014, the three-axis tourbillon presented a series of high complications, including a complicated minute repetition introduced earlier this year.

“As we continue to attract more female customers, and more women express increased interest in high watchmaking, I decided to do something that was specifically designed for women,” says Jacob & Co. founder Jacob Arabo. “I envisioned something that was complicated mechanically and integrated high jewelry elements, and the Fleurs de Jardin, in development for more than a year, is the result. The structure on top—the flying tourbillon, the time display and the frame carrying the gemstone flowers—rotates clockwise in 10 minutes, like our iconic Astronomia, but the gemstone flower-set mother of pearl dial underneath turns counter-clockwise, while the inner sapphire-set ring turns clockwise. Having everything spinning and turning makes this timepiece extremely complicated, but it is all in service of the watch’s incredible aesthetic.”
The hand-wound mechanism contains three hands that revolutionize the central axis every ten minutes, with a sixty-second flying tourbillon. What decorates the mechanism will certainly give the strongest first impression.
In short, this model is jeweler in the true sense of the word: visible beneath the unique Astronomia sapphire dome, there is a jeweled mechanism. It features a 0.85-carat blue topaz, a frame created with 11 flowers consisting of colorful gemstones including pink and blue sapphires, tsavorite, amethyst, orange sapphires and rubies. On a mother-of-pearl base, which rotates counterclockwise every ten minutes and is decorated with 46 blue sapphires, luxury takes on a whole new meaning.
We must also mention the jewels that adorn the case of this 42.5 millimeter diameter model, made of rose gold. The base itself bears 40 blue sapphires, while the inner ring contains 48 of the same stones. A pink sapphire version is also available.
Finally, we have to say that only 101 of these models will be manufactured, and its price is $360,000.
