When it comes to iconic works of art, one of the most famous in the whole world is definitely Mona Lisa, which is the work of Leonardo da Vinci …
The painting, featuring the character of Lisa Gherardini, the wife of a Florentine silk merchant, Francesco Giocondo, is currently on the wall of the Louvre Museum in Paris, where it spent more than 200 years. Nevertheless, we must admit that there are artistic copies of this painting on all four sides of the world.
One such replica reportedly dates from the seventeenth century and was recently sold at a staggering price of €552,500. A copy of the famous piece of art was auctioned in Paris just a few days ago, reaching several times the estimated price of €70,000 to €90,000.
Commenting on this incredible sale, Baukje Coenen, a director at Sotheby’s stated: “This incredible result is a testament to the power of lasting fascination with this iconic image.” The original Mona Lisa that Da Vinci started working on in 1503 is considered to be the most visited, most popular, most famous work of art in the world, and is also considered the most valuable of its kind.
