Michael Schumacher’s F1 Ferrari F2002 car, with which he won numerous victories during 2002 Formula One season, was sold for $6,643,750 at a recent auction in Abu Dhabi through RM Sotheby’s auction house.
With F2002 car, chassis number no. 219, Schumacher won the GP of Austria, France and San Marino.
It is interesting that Michael Schumacher did not immediately jump into the concrete car, but was first driven by his team-mate Rubens Barrichello in tests ahead of the 2002 season at the Barcelona runway. The car made its debut at the San Marino race and was driven by Barrichello at the qualifying stage and won the second starting position, and Schumacher in the car with the chassis number no.220 first.
However, at Ferrari, the drivers decided to replace the cars before the race, and the German arrived first in the car from the auction, no.219.
After the season, Ferrari retired and sold the car to a Japanese collector (along with car no. 220). Later, in 2012, the car was re-sold, and all proceeds went to charity before it was offered by RM Sotheby’s in Abu Dhabi.
