McLaren introduced the road version of the 570S GT4 with more power, less weight and an aerodynamic package with racing specifications. This is a new member of the Sport Series which has been dubbed the 620R and production will begin in 2020.
McLaren claims that the 620R version of the race car is legal for road driving because it shares a lot with the racing model 570S GT4 and guarantees that it “retained the DNA of a fully-approved track car. and at the same time exempt from the restrictions that apply to race cars.
McLaren 620R became the fastest model in the Sport Series. The engine power for the GT4 has been reduced from 562 to 420 hp, while the 620R develops 621 hp.
The car is 30 kg lighter than the 570S, from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.9 seconds, with a top speed of 322 km/h. It has taken manually adjustable dampers from the GT4, dampers are lighter than standard 6 kg, and springs are stiffer.
The car comes out of the factory with Pirelli Trofeo R semi-slick tires, and for an extra charge you can get real slicks developed specifically for Mclaren. Carbon-ceramic brakes take care of stopping.
The aerodynamics are enhanced by a customizable carbon spoiler that can create up to 185 downforce. The car also has a redesigned bumper, splitter, bonnet and front wings to improve aerodynamics.
To reduce weight, the upholstery, glove box, air conditioning, navigation and audio system have been removed, but can be installed at no additional cost. A touch screen is present and displays telemetry on the track, and it is optional to get three cameras. Carbon-made seats are lightweight and come with six-point seat belts. There are three body color combinations on offer, orange with white lines, white with green lines and black with also green lines. Various stickers as well as details in different colors and more can be obtained at extra cost.
McLaren will produce just 350 copies of the 620R, costing £250,000.
