To honor this special occasion, the Swiss luxury brand is introducing the TAG Heuer Carrera 160 Years Silver Limited Edition model, with a 1960’s design, powered by 21st Century technology and innovation …
In 1860, the TAG Heuer brand, then known only as Heuer, was founded by Edouard Heuer in St-Imier, Switzerland. Much has changed over the past 160 years, but the brand’s dedication to innovation and the development of high-end watchmaking has remained constant. One collection that will receive special attention this year is the TAG Heuer Carrera line, featuring one of the most sophisticated chronographs of the brand. These are iconic timepieces, which, since its introduction almost sixty years ago, have kept the heritage of the celebrated house and its bold spirit from the passing of time.
To open the year of homage and celebrations, the TAG Heuer brand introduces the TAG Heuer Carrera 160 Years Silver Limited Edition, which will be produced in only 1860 pieces. The new watch will be available for purchase from June this year.
In 1962, then CEO Jack Heuer heard the story of the legendary Carrera Panamericana, one of the most dangerous racing tracks in the world. The word “carrera” in Spanish means road, race, track and the like, caught his attention: he knew immediately that it would be the perfect name for a new watch. The following year, the first Heuer Carrera chronographs left the premises of their manufactory.
As a fan of modern and clean design, Jack Heuer wanted the chronograph Heuer Carrer aesthetics to be clean and proportioned – these features also feature the perfect timepieces for drivers, who have to keep their eyes on the road during the race without much turn. The renowned 1964 monochromatic silver dial, with its three azurage counters, is the perfect choice to celebrate the brand’s 160th anniversary. Often referred to as the 2447S, this model is now gaining a new moment under the spotlights, with advances characteristic of the twenty-first century.
The new stainless steel chronograph features many design accents that are similar to its predecessor, such as an ethereally sleek dial and polished case. However, the shape is slightly different, so the clock now measures 39 mm instead of the original 36.
The permanent second indicator is in position six hours instead of nine, due to the difference in construction of the Valjoux 72 from 1963 and today’s Heuer 02 mechanism. Another change from the original is the shape of the center clock and minute hands, now faceted and coated with a beige SuperLuminova® layer. The unmistakable Carrera name and Heuer shield are printed on a dial that is protected by a domed sapphire crystal, which gives the whole story a retro touch, reminding us of the original Heuer Carrera model.
Presented with a black alligator leather strap, this model is limited to 1860 pieces, which is an homage to the year in which the Heuer brand was founded. “One of 1860” and “Limited Edition” prints are engraved on the back of the case. The redesigned oscillating jar, visible through a sapphire crystal, is embellished with lacquer-engraved engravings that indicate a limited edition model.
