Ok, we all know that Pikachu Illustrator card is one of the rarest Pokémon cards a collector can get. But one extremely rare Pokémon card was bought at auction for a whopping US$233,000, making it the most expensive card ever sold.
Approximately 39 were originally released and from those, only 10 are believed to remain. So, no wonder why this card which also was graded as a Professional Sports Authenticator Mint 9 ( meaning it’s in superb condition with no more than one flaw) reached that price.
Despite the high value of the card, it actually completely useless in a competitive sense. The front text reads “we certify that your illustration is an excellent entry in the Pokemon Card Game Illustration Contest. Therefore, we state that you are an Officially Authorized Pokemon Card Illustrator and admire your skill.”
The previous record for most expensive Pokemon card sale was held by this card when it sold for $195,000 last October.
