Lakefront Mansion Price Cut by $25 Million
Situated on the tax-free side of Nevada’s Lake Tahoe, 210-acre property, owned by Joel Horowitz, the co-founder of fashion label Tommy Hilfiger, has been price-chopped to $75 million. Joel and his wife Ann built in the late 1990s, sparing no expense in constructing an eight-building compound that incorporates materials, artifacts, furniture and art gathered from around the world.
There are eight buildings: main residence, conservatory, guest residence, art studio, boat house pavilion, gymnasium with indoor basketball court, stable, and additional residence for guest and staff. The house is made up of 20,000 square feet of living space and modelled after a northern European mountain home. It also has a 3,500-bottle wine cellar, an indoor swimming pool and atrium, as well as a 19-seat movie theatre, ensuring constant entertainment, even if snowed in. There are two par-3 golf holes and a 16 car garage.
The main staircase is a replica of the Titanic’s staircase, complete with domed ceiling; a cigar lounge takes direct inspiration from New York’s St. Regis Hotel; and the library’s marble floor pattern hails from the New York Public Library. The dining hall touts 17th Century plank flooring pulled from a French property and a hand painted ceiling mural displaying indigenous Lake Tahoe fauna.
The nine-bedroom property, which sits on the Nevada side of Lake Tahoe and completely encircles a smaller lake, went on the market for $100 million in 2006. Nearly five years later, with no billionaire takers coming to the closing table, the former CEO is finally slashing that nine figure price tag by 25%. It’s now asking $75 million.
