You already now who is Marc Newson! An industrial designer who works in aircraft design, product design, furniture design, jewellery, and clothing now teams up with Danish manufacturer of fine silverware – George Jewnsen to create a limited-edition silver tea service. The result is magnificent tea set entirely made of hand-hammered silver with handles made from mammoth tusks which is priced a whopping £82,000 ($126,700).
Five-piece set includes a tea pot, a coffee pot, a creamer, a sugar bowl and a tray. The edge of the tray and the bases of the tea and coffee pots are wrapped in rattan, and handles that extend out from the side of the pots are made from “responsibly sourced” mammoth tusk. A half moon cutout on the top of the pots houses a sliding lid, moved by a small pill-shaped handle.
The set is designed through six months period with rapid 3D prototyping in the early stages of development.
There are only 10 editions of the five-piece set available, and each will be made to order in the company’s Copenhagen workshop.
