When it comes to drinking whiskey in style, there are two common types of glassware: the narrow Glencairn snifter, designed for pushing aromas up toward the nose, and the tumbler, which feels more natural to hold. Fledgling design brand Norlan and Icelandic designer Sruli Recht have launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise funding for a whiskey glass that combines the best aspects of the snifter and tumbler in one.
The Norlan Whisky Glass has been developed through a process of combining fluid dynamics modeling and bio-mimicry, out of a love for whisky matched with a frustration by the poor glassware available to whisky enthusiasts. The result is double-walled whisky glass wide enough for the whiskey to splash up against the sides and aerate faster. Aeration can also allow the flavour of the spirit to develop further before it is drunk. The outer wall gives the glass a fuller shape and heaviness so it sits nicely in your hand.
Norlan Whiskey glasses can be purchased for a $45 per a pair ($35 for early bird pledgers).
