Photograph titled “Potato # 345” shot by renowned Irish photographer Kevin Abosch in 2010, was sold last year for $1 million, thus becoming one of the 20 most expensive photos in the world. Abosch is best known for his portraits of celebrities from the world of entertainment, especially businesses. He takes $150,000 portraits of Silicon Valley’s most powerful people. Last week he was invited to the World Economic Forum in Davo because there were “most of his clients.”
Irish photographer is engaged in artistic photography, and potato is one of his passions.
A biologist by training, Abosch believes that potatoes “are like people, all different, yet recognizable as members of the same species.”
He made a series of photographs of potatoes, but the “Potato # 345” is one of his favorites.
The artist occasionally opens his studio for a visit. During one of them, “Potatoes # 345” has caught the eye of a rich collector who did not have a problem to splash out one million dollar to become the owner of the photo.
