For the past 20 years, luxury shoe brand Stuart Weitzman has showcased footwear commissioned by artists, designers and craftsmen from around the world. The latest 2015-2016 season will be presented as bassX in a satellite space in the Miami Beach Regional Library, located directly across the street from the Bass Museum. Titled, Art & Sole: Fantasy Shoes from the Jane Gershon Weitzman Collection, this exhibition will run from March 8 through April 10, 2016.
Weitzman Showcases Fantastical Art & Sole in Miami
Over 150 of the most inventive examples of these fantasy art shoes, remarkable for their imaginative construction and elaborate adornment will be on display. Shoes are constructed of unexpected materials such as bronze, ceramic, wire, Plexiglas or in the case of Robert Steele, corrugated cardboard. Other shoes are noteworthy for their surfaces, embellished with feathers, gems, fresh flowers and cake frosting. Evelyn Kaplan who works in a mosaic art form pique assiette, crafted shoes from pieces vintage china, porcelain and ceramic knickknacks.

Joan Klimo, who worked in fabric and mixed media, transformed shoes into whimsical soft sculptures.
Art & Sole was curated by Jane Gershon Weitzman, Executive Vice President of Stuart Weitzman and Stuart Weitzman Retail, who also authored a book on the topic. Weitzman said “I looked at the [store’s] windows as variations on a theme. I tried to find artists who worked in as many different materials and styles as possible.”
