Amazon has announced the Kindle Oasis – the most expensive but most technologically advanced e-reader the company has released to date. The device is 30% thinner on average and 20% lighter than any previous Kindle, according to Amazon, while it’s battery life is measured in months rather than weeks, as was the case with the previous version. It’s also asymmetrical, with a grip on one side for one-handed reading.

Amazon has built in sensors to detect whether you are holding the device with your left hand or right hand, and will automatically rotate the page and turn buttons to match.
The six-inch touchscreen is an updated version of the Paperwhite display used on all of Amazon’s current e-readers.

The display is noticeably crisper and whiter than previous Kindle models and uses 60 per cent more LEDs for reading in low-light and bright sunlight.
But, those updated features come with a hefty price – a base price of $290 and a top price of $380, which gets you a 3G cellular connection and no lock-screen ads.
