Fiver (about six euros) is made of a solid polymer, which allows greater durability. The bill has the latest security measures and protection against counterfeiting and officials of the Central Bank of Great Britain insist that the new banknotes are cleaner, safer and stronger than paper money.
The image on the new banknote is a portrait of wartime leader Winston Churchill, which is still one of the most respected British statesman.
The old banknotes of five pounds will be in effect until 5 May.
