As the Official Watch of the 35th America’s Cup, Panerai has just announced no fewer than five Special Edition watches. Swiss-made, Florentine-born watch brand has teamed up with Oracle Team USA, which won the most recent Cup in historic fashion, and Softbank Team Japan, the first Cup competitor from Asia in 15 years and their result are this Special Editions produced in limited numbers.
First is Panerai Luminor Marina 1950 America’s Cup 3 Days Automatic Acciaio – 44mm – the Official Watch of the 35th edition of the oldest sports competition in the modern world. Its stainless steel case measures 44 mm in diameter and, like all Luminor models, features Panerai’s patented crown-protection lever device. The watch, which is water-resistant to a respectable 300 meters, has a polished bezel and a black “sandwich” dial. The date appears at 3 o’clock and the running seconds on a subdial at 9 o’clock. “America’s Cup” is printed in blue above the 6 o’clock position, and the black, untreated leather strap, with the America’s Cup logo heat-embossed on both sides, is stitched with red-and-blue thread. Inside is Panerai’s in-house Caliber P.9010, an automatic movement with a three-day power reserve. The solid caseback is engraved with an America’s Cup logo. The watch (Ref. PAM00727) is limited to 300 pieces and priced at $8,100.
Since, Panerai is also the official partner of Oracle Team USA, the Defender of the 35th America’s Cup, no wonder why Oracle Team USA is represented by three new timepieces. Each timepiece is limited to 200 pieces.
Panerai is also the official partner for Softbank Team Japan, so their Panerai Luminor Marina 1950 Softbank Team Japan 3 Days Automatic Acciaio 44m (PAM732), is created especially for Softbank Team Japan. It is limited to just 150 pieces worldwide.
