Singers Sammy Hager and Adam Levine have launched “World’s First Mezquila“, a blend of the processes used to make two Mexican-produced liquors: tequila and mezcal. Santo Puro Mezquila is described as an agave blend, combining 100% Blue Variety Tequilana Weber agave and 100% Espadin agave, of the Angustifolia variety. The resulting liquid is said to have an “intense agave aroma” that reveals an “earthy, light smokiness with a hint of herbs”. On the palate, Santo is “mellow”; the “intricate agave flavor and herbal complexity layered with gentle smoke, slight floral fruitiness and low saltiness”.
The idea of the mezquila blend stemmed from a dinner in Cabo, Mexico in 2015 when the pair known for their respective work with Van Halen and Maroon 5, and a man named Jack Daniels (not of whiskey fame) decided to switch up their drinks from tequila to mezcal, according to Ad Age. The trio found the smoky taste of mezcal overpowering and poured it in their tequila glasses so “not to hurt the [restaurant] owner’s feelings.” They found the mixture tasty, and the idea of Santo Mezquila was born.
Santo Mezquila which will retail for $55 a bottle, will launch in several cities and states in the first quarter of this year.
