Vespa scooter is probably the most recognizable two-wheeler in the world, and that from 1940 until today made millions of copies, it is not hard to find old models in great condition and at affordable prices. However, for a copy which you can see in the photos you will have to be “bounteous.” It is about one of the earliest models, with a number of frame 1003, and it is the oldest preserved Vespa in the world.
It belongs to a series of zero, which means that is part of the pre-production batch of 60 units, and nearly every part on it is hand made.
World’s Oldest Vespa
Judging by the number of the frame, this is the third Vespa ever made, and it is assumed that the model numbers 1001 and 1002 have long ended up in scrap metal. Scooter is restored, as evidenced by component, but no sanding was done on the exterior, just is coated with a protective layer of lacquer.
It is powered by a single cylinder two-stroke fully functional unit, the volume of 98 cc, with a water cooling and connected to a three-speed transmission.
Vespa comes with all the documents that confirm the originality. The auction for its sale is in progress, and now reached the price of 162,500 euros, although it is assumed that the final could be over 300,000 euros.
