Bubble tea (or boba) is a common beverage of Taiwanese origin that first appeared in the 1980s, of which chewy tapioca pearls are poured into a glass of iced, sweetened tea. Today, the drink has gained popularity beyond Asia and is enjoyed by many in America and around the world. So, no wonder why luxury tea blender Tealeaves came up with the idea to join forces with the St. Regis San Francisco to create the world’s most expensive Bubble tea.
The companies have re-imagined and elevated the popular drink—even going so far as to rename it the “Boba Teashake” and employ Franck Desplechin, executive chef at The St. Regis San Francisco, to dream up its new ingredients. Indian, Chinese and Ceylon black tea are blended with the natural oils of lychee and passionfruit, for a delicate aroma, even over ice.
The drink’s unveiling will take place at San Francisco Design Week (SFDW) June 14-22, 2017. If you can’t make it to San Francisco to taste the Teashake in person, there’s even an entire website devoted to the Teashake. The Lychee Passionfruit Bubble Tea re-make can also be purchased at tealeaves.com for $23.95
