American Green Inc., one of the largest American cannabis manufacturers, has bought all the land that belongs to California desert town of Nipton. New owners want to transform a city on the road of a former gold race, about 95 kilometers from Las Vegas, into a destination that is “energy-independent and open to marijuana”.
The town’s current owner, Roxanne Lang, said the sale is still in escrow, but confirmed American Green is the buyer.
She describes Nipton as a place “well-placed in the middle of nothing.”
When her late husband bought Nipton in 1985, it was a desolate city of ghosts that he turned into an eccentric destination for lovers of desert.
There are about 20 people living in the city.
