Aston Martin DBR1 from 1956 was sold at RM Sotheby’s Monterey auction, for a whopping $22,5 million.
It is the first of only five copies produced, and since none of them has so far not sold publicly, it is not surprising mentioned amount. This also makes it the most expensive British car ever sold at auction.
This DBR1 debuted at Le Mans 24 Hours in 1956, but after 22 hours, it quit due to engine failure. However, the car then took part in a number of other endurance races, with Stirling Moss, Carroll Shelby and Jack Brabham behind its steering wheel. One of these races was Nurbirgring 1000KM, held in 1959, when Stirling Moss won with it.

Apart from this DBR1, RM Sotheby’s has sold several more Aston Martin models, including 1959 Aston Martin DB4GT (sold for $6,765,000) and 2006 Aston Martin DBR9 ($616,000).
