‘Le Mans’ from 1971 is certainly one of the best movies regarding the subject of automobile racing, and, the car in general. Steve McQueen may have been a major actor, but the biggest star of the movie has nevertheless become Porsche 917K.
A confirmation of this came last weekend when the car was auctioned for $14 million. And the estimate was that it could reach the $16 million price.
Specific Porsche 917K began life as a test car in the 24 Hours Le Mans in 1970, but soon it was sold to Jou Siffert. He then borrowed it to Steve McQueen for the film’s needs.
Siffert died suddenly in 1971, after which the car was sold to a collector from Paris, who had it until 2001.
Earlier this year, Porsche 917K was completely restored in Switzerland.
