Four mammoth skeletons will be offered at the Summers Place Auctions in Billingshurst, West Sussex, on November 21 for an estimated price of £400,000 ($530,000). The family consists of a male and female mammoth, an adolescent daughter and a one-year-old infant. They were unearthed in Siberia, after construction workers noticed bones close to where they had started work.
Mammoth Skeletons
Due to their relatively small size, the animals are thought to have experienced unfavourable living conditions and to have died around 12,000 to 16,000 years ago, at the end of the Pleistocene period.
The one-year-old is only the second known almost complete baby mammoth skeleton in the world.
Earlier too skeletons of the T-Rex and the Stegosaurus have been auctioned for whopping sums of 2-3 million dollars.
