A half-smoked cigar by former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill on the way to Paris in 1947 was sold for just over £9,000 ($12,000) on an online auction. The residue cigars, 10 centimeters (4-inch) long, was bought last night by collector from Palm Beach, Florida, said auction house RR from Boston. The auction house said that Churchill had just smoked that cigar on May 11, 1947 at the then main Paris airport, Le Bourget.
In addition to the cigar, a photo of the Churchill with a cigar at the airport, with the signature of the famous Prime Minister, was also sold.
The cigar was saved by British airman Corporal William Alan Turner, who operated the plane whereby Churchill and his wife Clementine traveled to and from Paris.
