Bowmore is a distillery that produces scotch whisky on the isle of Islay, an island of the Inner Hebrides. The distillery, which lies on the South Eastern shore of Loch Indaal, is one of the oldest in Scotland and is said to have been established in 1779.
Bowmore Distillery recently launched a special edition of Black Bowmore – a 50-year-old whiskey matured in Spanish sherry barrels. A special and extremely rare edition consists of 159 bottles, and the price is £16,000 ($22,800).

However, the latest edition of the prestigious brand of whiskey is even more exclusive. Named Bowmore 1966, this liquid elixir is also 50 years old. This whiskey matured in the former bourbon barrels, and for this reason it has a completely different taste from its predecessor. Since there are only 74 bottles of this whiskey, the price per bottle is significantly higher and is £20,000 ($25,500).
Whisky comes in a very attractive edition – a package designed by John Galvin Designs, a design studio from Glasgow known for creating the most expensive whiskey boxes in the world. A Scottish firm that uses traditional glass blowing techniques has manually made a glass bottle in which precious liquid is kept.
This edition of Bowmore 1966 was created in honor of Eddie McAfee, who joined the company’s team in 1966. It was launched right now when he went to retire.
The rare bottling is packaged in a handmade crystal decanter with sterling silver adornments and housed in a handcrafted cabinet made from Scottish oak. The center of each cabinet has five hand-laid silver tree rings that depict the five decades the spirit spent aging.
It’s one of the best bottled whisks ever, and only a handful of them will be able to enjoy this extraordinary drink.
