This year, Jacob & Co. unveils an exceptional groundbreaking timepiece that elevates the art of watchmaking above the Earth, above time – the Astronomia Tourbillon Clarity Octopus.
Combining the highest level of Swiss timepiece craftsmanship and the horological decorative arts to create a watch that is a poetic visual rendering of the celestial world with every element in constant, visible motion, all under the control of the oscillator at the heart of the three-axis tourbillon with an orbital display of the hours and minutes.
The main focal piece of the watch is hand-engraved and lacquered 3D octopys which features a diamond that emerges from the right side.
This round diamond rotates every 60 seconds on two axes. Plus, it is a Jacob cut – which means 288 sparkling facets. The Earth is a magnesium-lacquered globe rotating every 60 seconds on two axes. Four planetary indications on four arms balance the movement: The hours and minutes indication; the triple-axis tourbillon regulating the movement; a globe rotating every 60 secojacob nds on two axes; and a round diamond, also rotating every 60 seconds on two axes.
This watch features a hand-crafted pink gold case, which holds up several viewing windows and the main domed crystal. Each clear part of the watch is made of sapphire, and all are coated with anti-reflective material. This watch is bigger than an average watch, coming in at 50mm in diameter and 25mm of thickness. It also has no visible crown, and almost looks like the mechanism is suspended within sapphire alone.
The watch comes with an alligator strap secured on a folding buckle. A quick release spring bar system allows you to change the watch strap easily. The Jacob & Co. Astronomia Tourbillon Clarity Octopus watch is priced at $944,000.
