A portrait of a young woman painted by former Nazi leader Adolf Hitler next week will be auctioned at an initial price of €60,000, according to the German auction house Vidler.
The oil on canvas 63 x 48 cm with Hitler’s signature depicts Charlotte Lobjoie, a Frenchman whom he met in that country during the First World War, and is presumed to have been in love.
“The painting was bought by unnamed Flemish industrialists in 1967,” the statement said.
The painting in what appears to be a rural setting depicts a young woman with a red scarf loosely on her head that casts a heavy shadow over her face, and holding a pitchfork. She is wearing a light-colored shirt, open from the neck down, exposing part of her breasts.
